As the 2024 election season heats up, vice-presidential candidate Tim Walz finds himself under scrutiny for a deeply concerning issue—his longstanding admiration for communist China. While the Minnesota governor has been known for controversial stances, such as advocating for tampons in boys’ bathrooms and leading a gay-straight alliance for teenagers, his affection for China’s authoritarian regime is perhaps the most troubling aspect of his political career.
According to a report from the Washington Free Beacon, Walz has been enamored with China’s Communist Party for decades. In a social studies class he taught in November 1991 at a Nebraska public school, Walz allegedly praised the Chinese government for its policies of equality, which have led to mass starvation, poverty, and death. “It means that everyone is the same and everyone shares,” Walz reportedly told his students, glossing over the horrific realities of the one-child policy and other brutal measures enforced by the Chinese government.

During the lesson, Walz seemed to ignore the devastating impact of the Chinese Communist Party’s rule. The forced abortions and widespread poverty caused by its policies were apparently less important to him than the notion of “leveling the playing field,” even if it meant making everyone equally miserable—a hallmark of communism wherever it’s tried.
