Wait, WHAT? Cops Suspended for Requesting Translation from CBP!

In a move that is sending shockwaves through law enforcement circles, officials in Democrat-run Detroit have suspended two police officers for reaching out to U.S. Customs and Border Protection during routine traffic stops. The punishment has ignited fierce debate over so-called “sanctuary” policies that restrict local cooperation with federal immigration authorities.

The Detroit Police Department confirmed that Sgt. Denise Wallet, a 27-year veteran of the force, and Officer James Corsi will each serve a 30-day suspension without pay. Though they will retain medical benefits, the financial penalty is significant and marks a rare disciplinary action tied directly to immigration-related contact with federal officials.

The decision came after the Detroit Board of Police Commissioners voted unanimously, 10-0, to approve the suspensions following a closed-door hearing. The vote underscores how firmly city leadership is standing behind its longstanding policy barring routine collaboration with agencies such as CBP or ICE.

At the center of the controversy are two separate traffic stops.

The first incident occurred on December 16, 2025. During that stop, Officer Corsi contacted U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Federal agents later detained the individual involved.
