In a move that has blindsided many conservatives, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) is spearheading a resolution in the Senate that would destroy one of President Trump’s boldest economic strategies—his America First tariff policy. Paul claims he’s already secured the votes to ram the measure through the Senate this week, directly undercutting Trump’s efforts to rebuild U.S. manufacturing and level the global playing field.
On Monday, CNN’s Manu Raju reported that Paul’s resolution has enough Senate backing to pass, and the Kentucky senator is now going after House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) for trying to block it on the House side. Paul accused Johnson of deceptive maneuvering by inserting rules that would prevent the resolution from being considered.

“I would call it chicanery. I would call it dishonesty. I mean, it’s just a terrible idea that he’s actually overturning the law with a rule,” Paul said.
Paul’s sharp words—and his partnership with some of the most far-left figures in the Senate—are raising alarms across the conservative base. Many see this as yet another instance of establishment Republicans sabotaging the America First movement from within.
