Vice President JD Vance delivered a forceful defense of President Donald Trump’s newly signed agreement with Iran on Thursday, arguing that the United States now possesses unprecedented leverage over the Islamic regime and insisting that Tehran will receive nothing unless it fully honors every requirement outlined in the deal.
Speaking during a White House press briefing after President Trump signed the U.S.-Iran Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), Vance answered a series of questions from reporters regarding whether Iran can truly be trusted to alter its behavior after decades of hostility toward the United States and its allies.
One reporter asked the vice president whether Iran’s current leadership fully understands the overwhelming economic and military leverage the United States now holds and whether that pressure could produce lasting behavioral changes.
“So, I certainly think they recognize the leverage that the United States has over them. We’ve seen that in a number of our conversations,” Vance responded.
