A Trump administration official told Fox News the move is not a “permanent termination of aid” but a “pause” until further notice. This development underscores Trump’s shift in strategy, signaling that Ukraine must take meaningful steps toward peace before receiving another dime from U.S. taxpayers.
Vance: Ukraine Must Show Commitment to Peace
During his Capitol Hill visit, CNN’s Manu Raju pressed Vance on whether the U.S. would reconsider aid if Zelenskyy changed his stance.
Vance responded: “No, look it, the president has been very clear he wants the Ukrainians to come to the negotiating table. I think when the Ukrainians come to the negotiating table, everything is on the table.”
When asked what the U.S. needs to see from Zelenskyy, Vance emphasized that it’s not about public statements but about real action behind closed doors.
“Look, I think the most important thing, a lot of people have made this about public statements, President Zelenskyy needs to say that he is committed to the peace or President Zelenskyy needs to apologize to the president. The public stuff doesn’t matter nearly as much as what are the Ukrainians doing to meaningfully engage on what a peaceful settlement would look like. We need the Ukrainians privately to come to us and say, ‘This is what we need, this is what we want. This is how we’ll participate in the process to end this conflict. That is the most important thing, and that lack of private engagement is what is most concerning to us.”

Trump: Zelenskyy “Won’t Be Around Very Long” If He Refuses Peace
Trump doubled down on his criticism of Zelenskyy, blasting him for saying that peace with Russia remains “very far away.” The former president warned that such rhetoric is unacceptable.
“This is the worst statement that could have been made by Zelensky, and America will not put up with it for much longer!” Trump said, slamming the Ukrainian leader’s stance.
Trump also suggested that if Zelenskyy remains unwilling to negotiate, his leadership might not last much longer.
“I think everybody has to get into a room, so to speak, and we have to make a deal, and the deal can be made very fast,” Trump said. “If somebody doesn’t want to make a deal, I think that person won’t be around very long. That person will not be listened to very long.”
Vance Signals Hope for Ukraine Mineral Deal
While the future of military aid remains in limbo, Trump and Vance are still pushing for a mineral deal with Ukraine, ensuring America gets a return on its investment. When asked about the possibility of securing this deal, Vance remained optimistic.
“Yeah, I certainly do. And I think the president is still committed to the mineral deal. I think we’ve heard some positive things, but not yet, of course, the signature from our friends in Ukraine. But, look, the mineral deal is a really important part of the president’s policy. Number one, the American people have got to get some payback for the incredible financial investment we’ve made in this country.”
Vance pointed out how European nations have structured their aid to Ukraine in ways that benefit them financially, while the U.S. has footed the bill with little in return.
“A lot of the aid that the Europeans have sent has come in the form of money that is getting repaid to them. Well, it’s really ridiculous and, frankly, an insult to the American people that the Europeans are getting a better deal than the American people. The president is just trying to ensure that the American people get a fair deal, while simultaneously incurring we have access to some minerals and resources that are very important for the economy of the future.”

America First: No More Endless Support for Ukraine
The message from Trump and Vance is clear—Ukraine must prove its commitment to peace, or U.S. support will remain on hold. The American people are tired of funding a war without seeing real progress. Trump is pushing for accountability, a return on investment, and an end to what he sees as a lopsided deal where Ukraine and Europe take advantage of U.S. generosity.
With the Biden administration’s Ukraine-first policies now in the rearview mirror, the Trump team is making sure America comes first. Ukraine’s leadership has a choice—step up and negotiate, or risk losing Washington’s support for good.
