NEW YORK — A dramatic scene unfolded at the United Nations on Wednesday when members of the U.S. delegation walked out during Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s address, just one day after Washington and Tehran held an unexpected three-hour round of negotiations in New York.
The walkout underscored the enormous divide between the two governments even as diplomatic channels appeared to be reopening.
Pezeshkian used his appearance before the U.N. General Assembly to directly challenge President Donald Trump’s description of the Iranian regime, portraying Tehran as the victim rather than the aggressor in the ongoing conflict.
“The U.S. president described us as terrorists: We have been the victims of terrorism,” he claimed.
