That determination led him aboard the famous Trump Force One, the Boeing 757 that became an instantly recognizable symbol of Donald Trump’s political rise. As dawn approached, the aircraft touched down at the airport that now bears the president’s name, marking a milestone that supporters say reflects Trump’s lasting impact on both Florida and the nation.
For many Americans, Trump Force One represents far more than a private aircraft. The jet became a centerpiece of Donald Trump’s presidential campaigns, appearing at rallies across the country and serving as a backdrop for some of the most memorable moments of modern political history.
The aircraft transported Trump through multiple election cycles, carrying him to events attended by tens of thousands of supporters. Its distinctive appearance became synonymous with the America First movement and one of the most unconventional political campaigns in U.S. history.
On July 9, 2026, that same aircraft became part of another historic moment when it landed at the newly renamed airport.
“This is the plane that carried him to victory,” Eric said. “It was the backdrop of so many of the presidential campaign stops. There’s so many stops with us as a family, so it was an incredibly special moment.”
The airport renaming itself has generated national attention.
After decades operating under its previous designation, Florida lawmakers approved legislation renaming the facility in honor of President Trump. Governor Ron DeSantis signed the measure into law after it passed through the state legislature earlier this year.
Supporters argue the move recognizes Trump’s unique relationship with Palm Beach and South Florida. Throughout his political career, Mar-a-Lago became one of the most important locations associated with his presidency. Foreign leaders, business executives, political allies, and administration officials frequently traveled through Palm Beach as the estate increasingly became a center of political activity.
The airport serves millions of passengers annually and acts as one of South Florida’s key transportation hubs.
Beginning August 18, airport officials are expected to transition the facility’s code from PBI to DJT, placing Trump’s initials on boarding passes, flight information systems, baggage tags, and aviation records.
That change will make the airport one of the most visible presidential tributes in the nation.
Historically, only a select group of American presidents have had major airports named in their honor. Facilities honoring John F. Kennedy, Ronald Reagan, Abraham Lincoln, Dwight Eisenhower, and George H.W. Bush are among the most notable examples.
Trump’s supporters point out that his recognition comes during his active political career rather than years after leaving public service.
“He’s a man that deserves it,” Eric Trump said. “He’s the man that’s done so much for this country. He’s fought like hell for all of us.”
For many conservatives, the renaming reflects Trump’s influence on Florida politics and the state’s transformation into one of the strongest Republican strongholds in the country.
Not everyone welcomed the change.
Some critics reportedly vowed to avoid using the airport altogether, suggesting they would instead travel through nearby airports in Miami or Fort Lauderdale.
Supporters, however, see such reactions as familiar political theater.
When Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport was renamed in honor of the 40th president in the late 1990s, opponents voiced many of the same objections. Yet over time, Reagan’s name became firmly attached to the airport, and the controversy largely faded from public attention.
Backers of the Trump airport designation believe history may follow a similar path.
With highway signs already updated, federal aviation records reflecting the new name, and millions of travelers expected to encounter the DJT designation each year, they argue the change is here to stay.
For Eric Trump, however, the day was about more than legislation, politics, or symbolism.
It was about ensuring that the first aircraft to arrive under the airport’s new identity was one that carried deep meaning for his family.
Before cargo planes, before commercial arrivals, and before the busy travel day officially began, Trump Force One rolled onto the runway and secured its place in what supporters view as a significant moment in the continuing story of the Trump political legacy.
Whether celebrated or criticized, the airport’s new name has already guaranteed one thing: President Donald Trump’s connection to Palm Beach will remain visible to millions of travelers for years to come.
