Amid the ongoing legal struggles of former President Donald Trump, a fresh wave of criticism has hit Special Counsel Jack Smith. Judge Aileen Cannon of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, who was appointed by Trump, raised questions about Smith’s handling of sealed materials in the case surrounding Trump’s retention of classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate.
In a recent legal filing, Judge Cannon highlighted her concerns. “The Court deems it necessary to express concern over the Special Counsel’s treatment of certain sealed materials in this case,” she stated, reflecting unease about Smith’s approach to handling confidential aspects of the proceedings. Trump is facing serious legal scrutiny, with 40 felony charges leveled against him for mishandling sensitive government documents after his tenure as president ended in January 2021.
