UH OH! Watch: AOC Snaps Over Debt Talks

Many Democrats, including New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, are incensed by President Joe Biden’s debt ceiling concessions to Speaker Kevin McCarthy and the House Republicans.

McCarthy was blasted by Ocasio-Cortez during a recent Capitol Hill address that was coming up to the debt ceiling agreement. Ocasio-Cortez is well recognized for her support of government spending programs. Even though a compromise was made, the Democratic representative expressed her annoyance with the Republican leader’s refusal to agree to their requests.

“I want to reiterate one point,” Three days before Biden resigned and gave Speaker McCarthy the victory on the debt ceiling, Ocasio-Cortez stated on Wednesday. “The reason why anyone is asking anyone on this stage about what we would vote for is because Kevin McCarthy needs our votes. Because Kevin McCarthy doesn’t have the votes. Because Kevin McCarthy is going to the White House without a majority of his caucus.”

“He does not have what is necessary to negotiate. And for any, any question about what anybody would settle for, he has a responsibility to concede,” she added.

“So, if he wants any Democratic support, he has to come to the table. And we have seen him over and over again say that he will not negotiate. That they are engaged in hostage taking, not negotiation, extortion, not conversation,” she angrily continued. “And that is not something we can establish, it is not something we can reinforce in this country.”

“The proposal that we see on this table right now that Kevin McCarthy and the Republican caucus have put down has been an absolute rejection of the same reckless tax cuts that were passed in 2017 that we said at the time would explode the debt ratio, that would explode the deficit,” the New Yorker, whose morals were questioned.

“And now, several years later, we are in this scenario. And instead of them recognizing the error of their ways, they want to protect tax cuts on yachts and private jets and make single moms pay for it,” she added. “And that’s where we say no. That’s when we say the American people did not elect House Progressives so that we can lay back while people’s food benefits are cut. We’re here to fight for working families. And so this is the last caucus to ask what are we going to give up in terms of people’s food, in terms of people’s healthcare, in terms of veterans. And the time is now to ask the Republican caucus why they are valuing billionaires over veterans and single mothers.”

“This is shameful,” the New York “squad” member exclaimed, “we can put an end to it, and it only takes five of the 18 Republicans that are in Biden-carried seats,” she insisted.

Ocasio-Cortez made multiple false claims in a recent audio recording. Republicans have supported McCarthy’s debt ceiling discussions, contrary to what she asserted, in unison. The claim made by Ocasio-Cortez that tax cuts raise the national debt is likewise untrue. Despite the Democratic Party’s frequent claims, the only thing that increases the national debt is government spending.

It seems that the White House did not pay attention to her pleas for help. On Saturday night, McCarthy said that he and Biden had reached an agreement about the debt ceiling in which Biden had made a number of substantial compromises.

News of the Day: Republicans assert that Biden’s agreement ends out-of-control spending, removes billions in COVID funds that have not been used, reduces red tape in the energy industry, and assures the safety of seniors, veterans, and the nation. The legislation also establishes additional job requirements for aid payments and eliminates presidential overreach. Tax increases have been stopped, Biden’s proposal to add 87,000 additional IRS agents has been scaled back, and Americans have been pulled out of poverty. Even former House Speaker Newt Gingrich praised McCarthy for winning the accord as a “dramatic victory.”

However, not everyone on the right is jubilant. Steve Bannon, a former Trump adviser, denounced the deal as a “total surrender” to Biden, claimed McCarthy is “not really a leader,” and promised that if the measure reaches the House, a “vacate to motion” will be filed.

Prepare for the election! The Associated Press reported that the House of Representatives will vote on the debt ceiling measure this coming Wednesday. The U.S. Senate will now have until June 5 to make their own efforts before the deadline imposed by Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, which is a much-needed respite.

President Biden has bad news: according to a recent survey, 60% of Americans think Congress should only lift the debt ceiling if there are equal budget reductions. This contradicts Biden’s position that no budget cutbacks should be made. How will this affect the continuing debt ceiling discussion now that a breakthrough in the impasse is on the horizon?

It’s obvious that AOC accuses McCarthy of being unsupported on the matter, but in actuality, it’s her own position that lacks support. She responds negatively to this fact.
