Foreign nationals hoping to enter the United States will now face a high-stakes financial hurdle — one that could cost them thousands of dollars upfront.
The U.S. State Department has launched a new “visa bond” pilot program that is unlike anything seen before. Select travelers seeking to visit the U.S. for business or pleasure could now be forced to fork over $5,000, $10,000, or even $15,000 in cash as a condition of entry. And here’s the kicker — if they overstay, that money goes straight into the hands of the U.S. government.
This policy is set to be implemented just 15 days after its formal notice appears in the Federal Register. That puts the start date right around August 20, 2025.
