Democrats just delivered another political gut-punch — sweeping major statewide victories in Virginia and New Jersey — and they did it by hammering Republicans on an issue conservatives once owned. Now President Donald Trump is sounding the alarm, admitting his party misread the battlefield while Democrats ran away with the one word voters cared about most.
And in just two words, Trump revealed exactly how Democrats managed to flip the script: “Affordability should be our word, not theirs.”
Those two words signal something Republicans rarely hear from Trump — a blunt admission that the Left has seized control of the one issue hitting every American household.
Speaking to a room of McDonald’s franchise owners on Monday, Trump didn’t sugarcoat the problem facing Republicans heading into 2026.
