Trump took to his favored social media platform, Truth Social, to make the announcement. In typical fashion, he was direct and unwavering in his stance. “There is nothing to debate!” the former president wrote in an all-caps post, underscoring his belief that at this late stage in the race, no debate is necessary. Trump’s refusal to participate directly rebuffs Fox News’ stance that a final debate would offer both candidates a chance to solidify their closing arguments. For Trump, the decision reflects his belief that time is better spent elsewhere. As voting is already underway for millions of Americans, with some states having mailed out absentee ballots over 45 days before Election Day, the former president argued that participating in a debate this close to November 5th would be a waste of valuable time. “It’s far too late in the season to waste time preparing for a two-hour debate,” Trump said in a recent interview.
