Trump’s New Pick: Special Forces Hero Joins Fight!

A Life Defined by Service and Sacrifice

Joe Kent is no stranger to the battlefield or the political arena. A native of Sweet Home, Oregon, Kent enlisted in the U.S. Army at 18, just before the September 11 attacks. Over the next two decades, he served in the 75th Ranger Regiment and Army Special Forces, completing 11 combat deployments.

His late wife, Shannon Kent, was also a dedicated military and intelligence officer. In 2019, she was tragically killed in Syria by an ISIS suicide bomber while on deployment. Her death profoundly impacted Kent, compelling him to transition from military service to political activism.

“At that moment, I knew I had to step away from putting myself in physical danger so I could be there for our two young sons,” Kent reflected during his congressional campaign. He also emphasized how Shannon’s death exposed the deep-seated resistance in Washington to Trump’s efforts to end prolonged military engagements.

“This attempt to end a war brought out the establishment’s true colors as they resisted him at every step,” Kent said, referring to Trump’s push to withdraw troops from Syria after achieving military objectives.

A Fighter for America First Policies

Kent’s transition to politics was driven by his belief that the establishment prioritizes endless wars over American interests. He ran for Congress twice in Washington’s 3rd Congressional District as a staunch America First candidate but was narrowly defeated both times by Democrat Marie Gluesenkamp Perez.

Following his nomination, Democrats swiftly criticized Trump’s choice. Washington State Democratic Party Chair Shasti Conrad attacked Kent’s selection, stating, “Washington knows that Joe Kent was the wrong choice for Congress and he’s a destructive choice to lead the National Counterterrorism Center.” She further accused him of promoting conspiracy theories and advocating for defunding the FBI.

Despite these criticisms, Trump remains steadfast in his support for Kent. “Joe will help us keep America safe by eradicating all terrorism, from the jihadists around the World, to the cartels in our backyard,” the former president asserted.

Bringing Combat Experience to National Security Leadership

Kent has long argued that career politicians lack the expertise needed to navigate complex national security threats. He has spoken extensively about how Congress is vulnerable to pressure from the military-industrial complex, which pushes for endless foreign interventions.

In an interview with Shawn Ryan, Kent explained that his years in special operations and intelligence uniquely position him to lead the NCTC. He believes his real-world experience fighting terrorism will allow him to cut through bureaucratic inefficiencies and implement policies that put American security first.

“I sought out every opportunity and any media outlet that would give me a platform to use my twenty-year expertise physically fighting these wars to articulate how correct President Trump was,” Kent stated.

With his nomination now in motion, Kent’s leadership will likely shape the future of U.S. counterterrorism efforts. His appointment signals Trump’s continued commitment to placing seasoned operators in key positions rather than career bureaucrats. As he steps into this new role, Kent is expected to bring a warrior’s perspective to the fight against global terrorism and border security threats.
