President Donald Trump’s decision to take command of the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C. is already reshaping the city’s crime problem. By stepping in and deploying additional forces, Trump brought order to a city that has been spiraling out of control under weak local leadership. Along with taking charge of the police force, he sent in 800 National Guard troops to back up law enforcement on the streets. The result? The numbers speak for themselves.
The DC Police Union posted on X that major crime categories have plummeted since Trump’s takeover. The data compared numbers before and after federal control, and the change is striking.
Carjackings, one of the city’s most terrifying crime waves, have collapsed by an incredible 83 percent. Robberies have plunged by 46 percent. Even before Trump officially took over, the Council on Criminal Justice reported that homicides were already down 19 percent in 2025. But with federal leadership now in place, the drop has become even more dramatic.
