In a stunning late-night showdown, the Republican-controlled U.S. Senate pushed through President Trump’s signature economic legislation — dubbed the “One Big Beautiful Bill” — in a razor-thin 51-50 vote. Vice President JD Vance delivered the decisive tie-breaking vote, handing Trump a major legislative win.
Not everyone in the GOP was on board, however. Senators Susan Collins (R-ME), Thom Tillis (R-NC), and Rand Paul (R-KY) sided with every Democrat to oppose the bill, sparking internal friction within Republican ranks.
Earlier that morning, Trump had sounded the alarm on Truth Social, warning Americans of the catastrophic consequences if the bill failed.
“Republicans, the One Big Beautiful Bill, perhaps the greatest and most important of its kind in history, gives the largest Tax Cuts and Border Security ever, Jobs by the Millions, Military/Vets increases, and so much more. The failure to pass means a whopping 68% Tax increase, the largest in history!!!,” he posted.
