Trump: “This Is Why They Took Me There”

President Donald Trump provided a detailed account of the chaotic moments following an alleged security threat that disrupted Saturday night’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner, explaining why Secret Service protocols ultimately required his immediate return to the White House despite his initial intent to remain at the event.

The incident unfolded after authorities reportedly thwarted a suspected gunman identified as 31-year-old Cole Allen, described in reports as a California-based computer scientist with a left-leaning background, who was allegedly targeting the administration. The situation triggered a rapid security response inside the Washington Hilton, where senior officials and guests were gathered for the high-profile media dinner.

Trump initially took to Truth Social shortly after the incident, signaling that he intended to return to the stage and allow the evening to continue. However, less than 20 minutes later, he issued a follow-up message confirming that law enforcement and security officials had directed him back to the White House “consistent with protocol.”

In a phone interview with Fox News’ Jacqui Heinrich, a co-host of “The Sunday Briefing” and member of the White House Correspondents’ Association board, Trump walked through his thinking in real time as the situation developed. Heinrich herself had been present during the event and addressed Trump directly about his reaction in the immediate aftermath.
