The United States reportedly launched a surprise military strike against the Iranian regime on Sunday, triggering an immediate retaliatory response from Tehran and raising fresh concerns about another escalation in the region.
According to Iranian affairs commentator Tousi, the American operation came after U.S. officials received intelligence indicating that Iranian forces were preparing to launch an attack against targets in Jordan. If accurate, the intelligence would help explain why Washington moved quickly rather than waiting for another Iranian strike to take place.
The reported operation appears to have caught elements of the Iranian regime off guard. Tehran has repeatedly threatened American interests and U.S. personnel throughout the Middle East, making Jordan an especially sensitive location given the presence of American forces and the country’s strategic position in the region.
