President Donald Trump was delivering a speech focused on crime and law enforcement in New York on Friday when the event suddenly took an emotional turn.
While speaking at the Nassau County Police Academy, Trump noticed two people in the audience whose presence immediately changed the tone of the event: Migdalia Martinez and retired NYPD Sgt. Jesus Freytes, the grieving parents of 12-year-old Jacob Freytes.
Jacob was killed in the Bronx late last month after being struck by a stray bullet during a gun battle, according to authorities. The tragedy has drawn renewed attention to the dangers faced by innocent New Yorkers amid violent crime.
