As speculation about the future of the Republican Party intensifies, Donald Trump may have just delivered his strongest hint yet about who he believes should carry the MAGA banner into the 2028 presidential race. And judging by the crowd reaction inside the White House on Monday night, conservatives in attendance appeared more than ready for the possibility.
During a special dinner honoring National Police Week, Trump covered a wide range of issues, from law enforcement support to the future leadership of the GOP. But one exchange in particular immediately grabbed attention and sparked fresh political chatter across Washington.
At one point during the event, Trump turned his focus toward two of the Republican Party’s biggest rising stars: Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
The president decided to gauge the room in real time.
“Who likes J.D. Vance?” Trump asked the audience.
Moments later, he followed up with another question.
“Who likes Marco Rubio?”
