President Donald Trump moved quickly on Monday to weigh in on who should temporarily fill the U.S. Senate seat left vacant after the unexpected passing of Sen. Lindsey Graham, publicly urging South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster to appoint Graham’s sister, Darline Graham Nordone.
The president announced his recommendation in a Truth Social post, saying Nordone would be the ideal choice to carry on her brother’s legacy while South Carolina prepares for a special election to choose a permanent successor.
“I recommended, to Governor Henry McMaster, Lindsey Graham’s wonderful sister, Darline, to serve as interim Senator from the Great State of South Carolina,” Trump wrote. “This would be a fabulous tribute to Lindsey, who loved her dearly!”
