A central theme in Trump’s post was his disbelief over how much American taxpayer money had been funneled into Ukraine’s defense while receiving nothing in return. The former president also pointed out troubling signs of corruption within the Ukrainian government.
“On top of this, Zelenskyy admits that half of the money we sent him is ‘MISSING.’ He refuses to have Elections, is very low in Ukrainian Polls, and the only thing he was good at was playing Biden ‘like a fiddle,’” Trump said.
Trump further hammered Zelenskyy for suspending elections, an action the Ukrainian president has defended as necessary due to the ongoing war. But Trump wasn’t buying it.
“He better move fast or he is not going to have a country left,” Trump warned, while asserting that his team is already working to negotiate an end to the war. “In the meantime, we are successfully negotiating an end to the War with Russia, something all admit only ‘TRUMP,’ and the Trump Administration, can do.”
Discussions between U.S. and Russian officials have reportedly started, leaving Zelenskyy and other European leaders frustrated at being left out. The talks are said to be paving the way for an agreement that could reshape the geopolitical landscape, particularly near NATO’s borders.
Zelenskyy has come under increasing pressure to hold elections before any peace deal is finalized. When asked about concerns that Russia could install a puppet regime, Trump didn’t seem convinced that it was a valid excuse to delay democratic processes in Ukraine.
“We have a situation where we haven’t had elections in Ukraine, where we have martial law, essentially martial law in Ukraine, where the leader in Ukraine – I mean, I hate to say it, but he’s down at 4 per cent approval rating, and where a country has been blown to smithereens,” Trump said.
At a press event at Mar-a-Lago, Trump doubled down on his belief that the war never should have started in the first place, criticizing Zelenskyy’s leadership.

“You have leadership now that’s allowed a war to go on that should have never even happened, even without the United States,” Trump told reporters. While acknowledging that he “likes” Zelenskyy personally, Trump said bluntly, “You should have ended it – three years, you should have never started it.”
Trump also expressed confidence in the early negotiations led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, saying he was optimistic after the first round of meetings involving key U.S. and Russian officials.
“Russia wants to do something. They want to stop the savage barbarianism,” Trump claimed.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has reportedly expressed interest in a direct meeting with Trump, though the details are still being arranged. Meanwhile, tensions remain high in Ukraine as new drone attacks target Kyiv, underscoring the urgent need for a resolution to the conflict.
