Trump Fires Back With Surprise DNI Appointment

President Donald Trump has announced a significant shake-up within the intelligence leadership structure, naming a new acting head of the nation’s intelligence apparatus just weeks after a major resignation at the top of the agency.

In a move that quickly drew attention across Washington, Trump confirmed on Tuesday morning that he has selected William Pulte to serve as acting Director of National Intelligence following the departure of Tulsi Gabbard. The decision marks an unexpected crossover appointment, placing a financial regulator into one of the most sensitive intelligence roles in the federal government.

Pulte currently leads the Federal Housing Finance Agency, a position he has held since being appointed earlier by Trump. In addition to that role, he also serves as Chairman overseeing mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, both central pillars of the U.S. housing finance system.

The announcement was made directly by Trump on Truth Social, where he emphasized Pulte’s financial oversight experience and leadership background in managing large-scale economic institutions.
