President Donald Trump is sounding the alarm over what he sees as the growing cost of “non-working holidays” in America—using Juneteenth as the latest example of federal overreach and economic waste.
In a fiery statement on Thursday, Trump made clear he’s fed up with the expanding list of government-mandated days off that he says are crippling productivity and draining the nation’s economy.
“Too many non-working holidays in America,” Trump declared. “It is costing our Country $BILLIONS OF DOLLARS to keep all of these businesses closed. The workers don’t want it either! Soon we’ll end up having a holiday for every once working day of the year. It must change if we are going to, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
The federal observance of Juneteenth—celebrated on June 19 to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved African Americans—was pushed into law by the Biden administration in 2021, with President Biden proudly touting it as a symbol of national unity.
