Despite the alarming nature of the event, federal prosecutors have so far only hit the accused, Ryan Wesley Routh, with two gun-related charges, sparking concerns among conservatives about a potential cover-up or a soft approach by authorities.
The attempt occurred on a Sunday afternoon while Trump was enjoying a round of golf at his West Palm Beach club with real estate mogul Steve Witkoff. At approximately 1:30 p.m., Routh reportedly positioned himself near the golf course, shoving the barrel of his rifle through the fence line. He was spotted by Secret Service agents, who opened fire on the suspect before he fled the scene.

According to initial reports, Routh was around 500 yards away from the former president, hiding in nearby shrubbery. He was armed with an AK-47, a weapon infamous for its lethality. Despite the Secret Service agents’ quick response, Routh managed to escape the scene in a black vehicle. However, he was arrested soon after in Martin County.
