An elderly Michigan widow who says she lives on a modest pension has become the latest face of growing Republican scrutiny over ActBlue’s fundraising practices after federal campaign finance records listed her as a prolific Democratic donor despite her insistence that she never made the contributions.
The case has fueled renewed questions from Republican lawmakers and investigators who argue that suspicious donation patterns deserve closer examination. They contend that if the allegations prove accurate, the issue could reach far beyond a single donor and expose serious vulnerabilities in the nation’s campaign finance system.
According to Federal Election Commission records compiled by researcher Bob Cushman, Elizabeth Waffle of Milan, Michigan, was credited with 14,696 separate political donations over roughly five years. Those contributions averaged just over $9 each and totaled more than $150,000.
