Tom Homan Just Shook Virginia Democrats

A political firestorm is building in Virginia, and this time it is not coming from Washington. It is coming from inside the state itself.

A series of violent crimes in Northern Virginia has ignited a fierce debate over immigration enforcement, public safety, and the role of local cooperation with federal authorities. At the center of it all is Governor Abigail Spanberger, whose early decisions in office are now facing intense scrutiny from critics and law enforcement voices alike.

And when former ICE chief Tom Homan weighed in, he did not hold back.

A Policy Shift That Sparked Immediate Backlash

Within hours of taking office in January, Spanberger made a decisive move. She dismantled agreements between Virginia law enforcement agencies and Immigration and Customs Enforcement known as 287(g) partnerships. These arrangements had previously allowed local officers to coordinate directly with federal immigration authorities.

Her predecessor, Glenn Youngkin, had expanded those agreements rapidly, with more than 30 jurisdictions participating. Thousands of arrests were tied to that cooperation.
