A years-long fight over Detroit’s 2020 election records has produced a new set of allegations that are already fueling renewed debate over absentee voting procedures and election oversight.

A team of volunteer investigators claims it has uncovered evidence suggesting that tens of thousands of absentee ballots counted in Detroit during the 2020 presidential election may not have been accompanied by the legally required ballot return envelopes.
The findings come after an extensive review of more than 155,000 absentee ballot envelopes obtained through a Freedom of Information Act battle that stretched over several years.
