For decades, the United Nations has lectured America on human rights. Now, one of their own judges is behind bars in Britain — and the story is horrifying.
A Young Woman Trapped
Lydia Mugambe met her victim in Uganda when the girl was just 19. She hired her as a nanny and maid, promising employment and support. When Mugambe moved to England to study law at Oxford University — ironically specializing in human rights — she brought the young woman along.
There was one catch: Mugambe’s student visa did not allow her to sponsor employees. So she conspired with John Leonard Mugerwa, Uganda’s Deputy High Commissioner to the UK, to create fake paperwork.
The duo fabricated employment contracts and a fraudulent Certificate of Sponsorship, claiming the woman would be paid to work at the Ugandan diplomatic residence. In reality, she was forced to live and work without pay in Mugambe’s private home in Kidlington, Oxfordshire.
Once the victim arrived, Mugambe took her passport and identification. She spent months cooking, cleaning, and caring for children — receiving nothing but meals and a place to sleep.
The situation only came to light when the victim recovered her documents and contacted a friend. Police were alerted in February 2023, and Mugambe was arrested at her home. Surveillance footage captured her shocked reaction, insisting she had diplomatic immunity. She did not.
