A new measure makes breaking this rule punishable by up to $10,000 in fines and two years in prison. This more severe penalty is reserved especially for individuals who have previously been found guilty of breaking the law by entering the nation.

However, the misdemeanor may become a second-degree felony, punishable by a term of two to twenty years in prison and a possible fine of up to $10,000, if the person had previously been found guilty of a felony and removed.
