The holiest day on the Jewish calendar turned into a nightmare in Manchester, England, after a violent attacker stormed a synagogue Thursday morning, leaving death and chaos in his wake. What was supposed to be a sacred time of prayer quickly became a scene of horror.
The brutal assault unfolded at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue at approximately 9:30 a.m., according to the U.K. Telegraph. Witnesses say the attacker appeared to be wearing what looked like a “suicide belt,” sparking panic as worshippers and security scrambled to respond.
Police revealed the suspect initially plowed his vehicle into pedestrians before pulling out a knife and attacking innocent people. Two were killed in the rampage, while at least three others were seriously wounded.
According to Sky News, one of those tragically killed was a security guard stationed outside the synagogue, a man who was simply doing his duty to protect others. His sacrifice highlighted the bravery of those who put their lives on the line to safeguard houses of worship.
