While Democratic leaders celebrated Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Kamala Harris as a potential game-changer in the 2024 election, new data suggests the pop star’s influence might not carry the political weight they had hoped. In fact, a recent YouGov poll has revealed that Swift’s backing of the Harris-Walz ticket may have alienated more voters than it attracted, raising doubts about the effectiveness of celebrity endorsements in politics.
According to the left-leaning YouGov polling outlet, only a small fraction—about 8%—of voters claimed Swift’s endorsement made them “somewhat” or “much more likely” to support the Harris-Walz ticket. In contrast, a sizable 20% said Swift’s endorsement actually made them “somewhat” or “much less likely” to vote for the Democratic team in 2024. This reaction suggests that Swift’s support may be having a counterproductive effect, particularly among those who are not fans of the singer or her political stances.
