Swalwell QUITS Governor Race—Scandal Erupts

>> Continued From the Previous Page <<

Statement from Swalwell:

“I am suspending my campaign for Governor.

To my family, staff, friends, and supporters, I am deeply sorry for mistakes in judgment I’ve made in my past.

I will fight the serious, false allegations that have been made — but that’s my fight, not a campaign’s.”

While Swalwell insists the accusations are untrue, the situation intensified almost immediately as prosecutors began taking a closer look. The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office has reportedly launched an investigation into the allegations, adding a legal dimension to an already explosive political scandal.

The controversy first gained traction after a bombshell report published by the San Francisco Chronicle detailed claims from a former staffer who alleged that Swalwell sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions. The report quickly ignited widespread media coverage and prompted further scrutiny.

According to the woman’s account, she had worked in Swalwell’s congressional office for two years. She claims that the congressman began pursuing her shortly after she was hired in 2019 at just 21 years old, raising serious questions about power dynamics and professional boundaries.

Following the Chronicle’s report, the situation escalated further when additional voices came forward. Three more women reportedly spoke with CNN, offering accounts and evidence that allegedly point to a broader pattern of misconduct by the California lawmaker.

The original accuser described a series of disturbing incidents, including an alleged assault in 2019 while she was still employed in Swalwell’s office. Even more alarming, she claimed a second, more severe assault took place years later in 2024, after her professional relationship with Swalwell had ended.

In an emotional interview, the woman recounted the events she says unfolded during the alleged 2024 incident, describing gaps in her memory and a deeply unsettling experience.

“I went to the bathroom, and I don’t remember anything after that,” she said, adding that she “remembered the next day.”

She went on to describe fragments of the encounter that she says have stayed with her.

“I can see flashes of that evening of him on top of me, me pushing him off, him grabbing me. It was a lot more aggressive. It was aggressive,” she said about the 2024 assault.

Her account continued with even more alarming details.

“He didn’t stop. He didn’t stop. I woke up the next morning naked, alone in his hotel. I, for a moment, didn’t even know that I was in his hotel room. That’s how intoxicated I was,” she said.

CNN reported that it took steps to verify elements of the woman’s story, including speaking with individuals she confided in at the time and reviewing contemporaneous text messages and photographs. The outlet also examined communication from a medical provider who, in a message sent shortly after the alleged incident, referred to the woman as a “survivor.”

As the allegations continued to mount, pressure within Swalwell’s own political orbit began to build. In a striking development, more than 50 former staffers reportedly called for the congressman to resign from his position in Congress, signaling that the fallout has extended well beyond the campaign trail.

The situation remains fluid, with investigations ongoing and new details potentially still to emerge. For now, what began as a gubernatorial campaign has transformed into a full-blown political and legal crisis—one that could have lasting implications not only for Eric Swalwell, but for the broader political landscape as well.
