A new tech-driven scam has sent shockwaves through Washington as Republican lawmakers and powerful business figures are being targeted in a disturbing impersonation scheme involving White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles. According to the Wall Street Journal, a swarm of calls and texts—some generated using artificial intelligence to mimic Wiles’s voice—have been sent out to high-ranking officials in recent weeks, prompting an active FBI investigation and heightened cybersecurity concerns at the highest levels of government.

The impersonation plot has reportedly been underway for weeks, with governors, senators, and corporate executives among the victims. Some messages allegedly included requests that appeared legitimate—like asking one Republican lawmaker to compile a list of potential pardon candidates for President Donald Trump. That alone has raised alarm bells over how close this scheme came to influencing actual policy or communications inside Trump’s circle.
