According to the Wall Street Journal, a swarm of calls and texts—some generated using artificial intelligence to mimic Wiles’s voice—have been sent out to high-ranking officials in recent weeks, prompting an active FBI investigation and heightened cybersecurity concerns at the highest levels of government.
AI Deepfake Scam Targets Political Elite
The impersonation plot has reportedly been underway for weeks, with governors, senators, and corporate executives among the victims. Posing as Susie Wiles, the mastermind behind the operation used AI-generated voice messages and fake texts to contact influential Americans under the guise of official business.
