In a harrowing middle-of-the-night ordeal, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and his family were abruptly forced to flee their official residence after flames tore through the historic Governor’s Mansion in what investigators believe was a deliberate act of arson.
Just hours after posting a family photo celebrating the start of Passover, the Shapiro household faced a terrifying wake-up call. Around 2 a.m., while the family was asleep inside the Harrisburg residence, Pennsylvania State Police pounded on the doors, alerting them to an active fire rapidly consuming parts of the structure.

“Last night at about 2AM, my family and I woke up to bangs on the door from the Pennsylvania State Police after an arsonist set fire to the Governor’s Residence in Harrisburg,” Shapiro wrote Sunday morning on X. “The Harrisburg Bureau of Fire was on the scene and while they worked to put out the fire, we were evacuated from the Residence safely by Pennsylvania State Police and assisted by Capitol Police.”
