Two once-powerful voter organizations tied to Stacey Abrams — groups that Democrats credited for flipping Georgia blue in 2020 — are shutting down after years of controversy, investigations, and crushing financial troubles.
The Georgia Voting Project and the New Georgia Project Action Fund, both founded by Abrams in 2013, announced Thursday that they are officially closing their doors. The groups were launched to “boost turnout among non-white voters” in response to what Abrams frequently called “voter suppression,” but the collapse paints a much different picture.
“Unsustainable Costs” and Record-Breaking Fines
In a statement released through the Rev. James Woodall, who chaired the board of the New Georgia Project Action Fund, the directors said:
“We recognize that the work of building a just and truthful world remains urgent. This moment calls for strong and courageous leaders to step forward, guided by principles and purpose.”
