Journalist Jonathon Owen Shroyer, who has drawn controversy, was given a 60-day prison term for allegedly committing “speech crimes” on January 6th in Washington, D.C.
Shroyer is charged by the DOJ with breaking the rules to enter a restricted area and acting violently in the Capitol.
The presenter of a Texas talk program for Infowars, Shroyer, is outspoken in his condemnation of the outcomes of the 2020 presidential election. He publicly urges action against the Electoral College vote’s certification in the days before January 6.

Shroyer took leadership of a mob during the Capitol breach and directed them toward the Capitol structure. His appearance in the restricted areas of the U.S. Capitol’s west and east sides has been documented on video and in photographs. Shroyer wasn’t a part of any violent or damaging episodes that took place within the Capitol, but his earlier words and his presence in the restricted area have been vital to the prosecution’s case against him because of his previous actions.
Shroyer’s legal issues remained after being arrested for raising a commotion in a House Judiciary Committee meeting. On January 6, 2021, he broke the terms of a deal that called for him to stay away from the U.S. Capitol and its grounds.

They mentioned occasions in which he expressed concern that there wouldn’t be “a million peaceful marchers in D.C.” if Joe Biden were elected president.

The DOJ contended that his impact was obvious despite the fact that he did not enter the Capitol building since many people who listened to him did. After the incident, Shroyer cited “Antifa” as the cause and took delight in the day’s activities. According to the DOJ memorandum, “Shroyer helped create January 6.”
According to the DOJ, Shroyer’s comments got worse before January 6. He addressed the audience in Washington, D.C., with enthusiasm, urging them to support Trump and stating, “We are the new revolution.” He shared his opinion that Americans were ready to act the day before, on January 5, and his worries about what would happen if the election certification process persisted.
“So, despite all the things that they’ve done to try to destroy our morale, despite all the things they’ve done to gaslight us, confuse us, and try to keep us locked inside, we’re here more powerful, more loud, and we’re fightin’ mad,” The document quotes Shoyer as saying on January 5.
