Colonel Susannah Meyers, once in charge of the Pituffik Space Base in Greenland, has been officially relieved of duty. Her offense? Publicly distancing the Arctic stronghold from Vice President J.D. Vance and the administration’s national security vision for the region.

Her firing came swiftly, mere hours after Military.com exposed a base-wide email in which Meyers declared that the “concerns of the U.S. administration discussed by Vice President Vance… are not reflective of Pituffik Space Base.”
“I do not presume to understand current politics,” Meyers wrote. “But what I do know is the concerns of the U.S. administration discussed by Vice President Vance on Friday are not reflective of Pituffik Space Base.”
