Soros DA’s Remarks Spark FURY!

Lewis had previously faced serious criminal charges, including a murder prosecution that ended in an acquittal in 2019.

But when Krasner addressed that earlier case, his explanation focused heavily on allegations of wrongdoing by a police officer involved in the investigation.

That decision prompted a sharp response from the Philadelphia Police Department and reopened a long-running debate over the district attorney’s approach to prosecuting violent crime.

Krasner Points to Alleged Police Misconduct in Earlier Murder Case

During a press conference, Krasner reportedly explained that the 2019 prosecution against Lewis had been compromised by serious misconduct involving a police officer.

According to the district attorney’s account, the officer had a romantic relationship with Lewis’ sister and allegedly fabricated an anonymous tip identifying another individual as the killer.

The supposed alternative suspect was known as “Spice.”

Krasner described the officer’s alleged actions using unusually forceful language, calling the conduct “criminal,” “outrageous,” “despicable,” and “tragic.”

Those allegations, if substantiated, would raise significant questions about the integrity of the original investigation.

However, Krasner’s remarks also triggered criticism over the timing of his comments, coming while the department and Seiber’s family were grieving.

The Philadelphia Police Department challenged the emphasis of the prosecutor’s public statements.

“Assigning blame while families are grieving does nothing to advance accountability or support those affected,” the department said in a statement to Fox News, according to the supplied account.

The department also argued that public officials should demonstrate accountability while supporting families affected by violence.

The disagreement highlighted an increasingly familiar tension in Philadelphia: competing demands for police accountability, effective prosecution, and public safety.

Suspect’s Criminal History Raises Questions

Lewis was reportedly no stranger to Philadelphia’s criminal justice system.

His record included a theft conviction in 2012, firearm and assault convictions in 2013, and a disorderly conduct plea in 2018.

He had also been subject to probation supervision.

In 2019, Lewis was acquitted of murder, a result that became central to the controversy following Seiber’s death.

An acquittal means the prosecution did not obtain a conviction. It does not, by itself, establish that prosecutors improperly released a dangerous individual.

Nevertheless, the circumstances surrounding that earlier prosecution are now attracting renewed attention.

Authorities allege Lewis subsequently participated in an armed confrontation involving multiple firearms, including two handguns and a shotgun.

According to the account provided, one officer was struck three times and another sustained 12 gunshot wounds during the attack.

Lewis allegedly took a wounded officer’s firearm before attempting to evade authorities.

He was reportedly located in a tree during the subsequent police search.

The suspect now faces 76 criminal charges, including murder, according to the original report.

Those allegations remain subject to the criminal court process.

Krasner’s Record Comes Under Renewed Scrutiny

The latest confrontation is unfolding against the backdrop of Krasner’s contentious history with Philadelphia law enforcement.

First elected in 2017, Krasner became one of the country’s most prominent progressive prosecutors, campaigning on criminal justice reform and changes to traditional prosecution practices.

His political rise also attracted attention because of financial support associated with billionaire liberal donor George Soros.

Critics have argued that the broader movement toward reduced incarceration and prosecutorial reform has sometimes failed to account adequately for repeat offenders.

Supporters, meanwhile, maintain that prosecutorial reform and holding police accountable for misconduct are essential to a functioning justice system.

Krasner has faced previous criticism over his handling of cases involving individuals convicted of killing police officers, including decisions concerning capital punishment and post-conviction litigation.

His tenure has also included a major political confrontation with Pennsylvania lawmakers, who voted to impeach him in 2022.

The dispute reflected deep disagreements over the district attorney’s approach to crime and public safety.

Yet Krasner has continued to retain electoral support in Philadelphia, winning a third term in 2025.

A Previous Murder Case Adds Another Layer to the Controversy

Additional reporting has revealed an important distinction in Lewis’ legal history.

Although the homicide at the center of the earlier investigation occurred in 2019, Lewis was acquitted at trial in 2023.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that problems with the investigation included alleged misconduct by an officer and shortcomings in the work of a homicide detective.

According to Krasner, one officer was fired and another disciplined following the controversy.

The district attorney maintained that prosecutors had attempted to secure a conviction despite serious problems with the evidence.

The case raises questions about whether the earlier investigation could have been handled differently and whether its outcome might have changed.

It also illustrates why assigning responsibility for Lewis’ subsequent alleged actions is more complicated than simply identifying the official who occupied the district attorney’s office.

A Grieving Family Remains at the Center of the Tragedy

Beyond the political controversy, the consequences of the shooting remain devastating.

Seiber spent approximately a decade serving the Philadelphia Police Department after his military service.

His surviving partner, Officer Hector Rodriguez, is a father of five who sustained 12 gunshot wounds and remained hospitalized as of October 15.

For Seiber’s wife, the tragedy means raising two young children without their father.

For his fellow officers, it means confronting the death of a colleague while continuing to respond to dangerous calls throughout the city.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro ordered flags lowered to honor Seiber’s service.

And Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel described the officer’s final struggle following the attack.

“He fought valiantly, but he lost his life today,” Bethel said.

The circumstances surrounding Seiber’s death will now be examined through the criminal proceedings against Lewis, while questions surrounding his earlier prosecutions are likely to remain a subject of public scrutiny.

Lewis is being held without bail, with his next court appearance scheduled for October 26.

For Philadelphia, the central questions extend beyond the political disagreement between its district attorney and police department.

How did an earlier murder investigation become compromised? Were warning signs missed during subsequent encounters with the justice system? And what changes, if any, could prevent another family from suffering a similar loss?

Those questions deserve careful answers grounded in evidence.

For Seiber’s widow and children, however, no investigation, political debate, or courtroom outcome can restore the husband and father they lost.
