A new political firestorm ignited this week after President Donald Trump blasted a group of Democrat lawmakers and former intelligence officials for encouraging members of the military and intelligence community to resist what they claim would be “illegal orders.” Trump, calling their coordinated messaging a form of rebellion, suggested their actions could amount to sedition and called for harsh consequences.
Instead of backing down, Rep. Elissa Slotkin and a circle of Democrat lawmakers responded with a highly coordinated media push, framing themselves as brave defenders of the Constitution while portraying Trump’s comments as an attack on American democracy.
Democrats Release Video Urging Military To Resist Trump
The Democrat group, led by Michigan’s Elissa Slotkin, rolled out a choreographed video message urging active-duty military and intelligence personnel to defy directives they personally believe to be unlawful. The lineup was carefully curated with military résumés:
• Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona, a former Navy pilot and NASA astronaut
• Rep. Chris Deluzio of Pennsylvania, a former Navy officer
• Rep. Maggie Goodlander of New Hampshire, a former Navy intelligence reservist and wife of Biden National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan
• Rep. Chrissy Houlahan of Pennsylvania, a former Air Force officer
• Rep. Jason Crow of Colorado, a former Army Ranger
