His wife and daughter were reportedly watching from below as the disaster unfolded.
Now, authorities are investigating how a man could fall from a high-speed attraction designed to keep passengers secured throughout the ride.
Witnesses Describe Terrifying Moments on Goliath
According to Atlanta television station WXIA, the victim was riding Goliath with his son when he suddenly became airborne.
Witnesses reported seeing the man collide with portions of the roller coaster before falling toward an area near a haunted house attraction.
One visitor claimed that a photograph automatically taken during the ride captured part of the incident.
“He was in our pictures,” the witness told WXIA. “He fell and hit the car three different times.”
For passengers seated nearby, the frightening sequence happened with almost no warning.
Logan Conner, who was riding with his fiancée, described seeing the victim suspended outside his seat.
Conner said the man “started levitating in the air sideways.”
“We made direct eye contact with him,” he added.
The account raises disturbing questions about what happened in the moments before the passenger left the ride.
Investigators have not announced whether a mechanical malfunction, restraint problem, medical emergency, or another factor contributed to the fall.
Until those findings are released, the precise cause remains unknown.
Woman Waiting Nearby Recalls Seeing Passenger Fall
The tragedy was not confined to those aboard the roller coaster.
Brittany Landry was reportedly standing approximately 150 feet away, waiting to board another attraction, when she witnessed the incident.
Landry described seeing “somebody fly out and just fly into the woods” before discovering the passenger had died.
Her reaction reflected the shock experienced by visitors who had arrived expecting an ordinary afternoon of entertainment.
“I broke down,” she recalled. “I just broke down.”
“I broke because we were just on there. We were just, we were on there.”
For Landry, the realization was especially unsettling because she had recently experienced the same attraction.
What had seemed like a routine thrill ride was suddenly the center of a fatal investigation.
Police Launch Investigation After Deadly Fall
Emergency personnel reportedly arrived at Six Flags Over Georgia shortly before 4 p.m.
Authorities confirmed one fatality, while reports also indicated that several additional people suffered injuries.
Officials have not explained how those other individuals were hurt or whether their injuries occurred aboard the roller coaster.
The Cobb County Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit is investigating the incident.
The deceased passenger’s identity has not been publicly disclosed.
Investigators face several important questions, including whether the ride’s safety systems were functioning properly and what occurred immediately before the fall.
Those questions are particularly significant because Goliath is among the largest and fastest attractions at the Georgia park.
Opened in 2006, the steel roller coaster climbs approximately 200 feet and reaches speeds near 70 miles per hour.
Its ride lasts roughly three and a half minutes, carrying passengers through steep drops and sweeping turns.
Those characteristics make the attraction popular with thrill seekers, but they also underscore why reliable passenger restraints are essential.
Six Flags Responds as Other Roller Coasters Are Closed
Following the fatal incident, Six Flags issued a statement expressing sympathy for the victim’s relatives and others affected by the tragedy.
“We are deeply saddened by the guest incident at our park today. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the guest’s family, friends, and loved ones. We are also providing support to the guests and team members affected,” a park spokesperson said.
The company also emphasized that it was assisting law enforcement.
“The park team and local authorities responded immediately, and we are cooperating fully with local authorities as they complete their investigation. Out of respect for the family’s privacy, we will not be sharing additional details at this time.”
Footage shared online reportedly showed passengers being guided down an emergency staircase after the roller coaster stopped operating.
Six Flags also reportedly suspended operations on nine roller coasters at six parks as a precaution following the incident.
The company has not publicly established that the tragedy resulted from a defect affecting other rides.
Any broader safety implications will depend on what investigators ultimately discover.
A Family Deserves Answers After a Holiday Tragedy
The fatal fall has placed renewed attention on amusement park safety and the responsibility operators have to protect passengers.
Millions of Americans visit theme parks expecting excitement, not danger.
When families board a roller coaster, they rely on the attraction’s equipment, inspection procedures, and operating personnel to keep them secure.
A passenger falling from a moving roller coaster is an extraordinary event that demands a thorough examination of the circumstances.
But determining responsibility requires evidence, not speculation.
Police investigators must establish exactly what happened before any conclusions can be drawn about possible equipment failures, operational mistakes, or other contributing factors.
For the victim’s family, however, the consequences are already devastating.
A son reportedly witnessed his father’s final moments from the same roller coaster, while his mother and sister were watching from the ground.
What began as a family celebration ended in an unimaginable loss.
