According to Sean Hannity of Fox News, former President Donald Trump is “open” to taking over as House Speaker in the meantime. The notion is being considered by conservative leaders and House Republicans.
“McCarthy will not seek the speakership again. Now, sources telling me at this hour some House Republicans have been in contact with and have started an effort to draft former President Donald Trump to be the next speaker,” Hannity said. “And I have been told that President Trump might be open to helping the Republican Party, at least in the short term, if necessary, if it’s needed.”
Is the former president Trump a candidate to take Kevin McCarthy’s place? Since Rep. Matt Gaetz’s nomination of Trump as Speaker in January, it certainly feels that way. The House was silent throughout.
Just hours after McCarthy was fired, a former president was nominated for an available seat. U.S. Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX) announced this on Tuesday through X.
U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) responded to Hannity’s question by saying that while he would love to see former President Trump return to the White House, he would also support him in the position of House Speaker. Jordan has also gotten nominations from his GOP colleagues to succeed McCarthy, though he has said that any decision to run would be “up to the conference.”
Trump’s close supporter and former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon vehemently backs his election as Speaker of the House. Bannon predicted that this action would unite the Republican Party.
“I think that as people think it through, for your consideration, we should think about President Donald J. Trump,” Bannon remarked in the War Room episode that aired on Tuesday. Then, he said that Trump is “essentially the nominee,” arguing that doing so will unify the Republican Party and mobilize the base for 2024.
“So given that Trump is essentially the nominee, who better to bring this party together and to do it now? They said, well, we can lose the House, we did, let’s bring it together now. Let’s bring it together now. I was very serious about January. And if they had taken our advice in January, we wouldn’t be where we are today. Number one, you would have never had that debt deal,” Bannon said. “Impossible. And you would have had real investigations. You would have had real impeachments underway.”

Let’s see. Trump becomes speaker of the house. Biden is impeached. Harris becomes president. She is impeached because just like Obama, she isn’t an american citizen, and is ineligible for the office and presto change o, Trump is president again. At least for a couple months.
