Deputies soon located the woman along the shoreline. Sheriff Budensiek described her injuries as severe. “She was wet with bruising on the side of her neck, bruising on the side of her face, and they started trying to piece together what had taken place,” he said.
Investigators believe the woman was caught off guard, attacked from behind while walking along the beach.
“She was hit first, grabbed around the throat, dragged into the ocean, and then held down as she struggled to break free from this individual,” Budensiek explained, painting a chilling picture of the ordeal.
Authorities later identified the suspect as Said Alexander Hernandez Gonzalez, who was arrested Sunday after deputies reported that he had threatened to take his own life.

According to Sheriff Budensiek, Hernandez Gonzalez has offered no clear motive for the attack.
“For some unknown reason, he went into a rage, went and smacked the phone out of her hand, realized he’d gone too far, pulled her into the ocean, and started trying to drown her,” Budensiek said.
Investigators said Hernandez Gonzalez admitted that he only stopped assaulting the woman because he believed she was dead.
When deputies informed him that she had survived and asked whether he felt any remorse, Hernandez Gonzalez reportedly replied, “No, I don’t feel nothing,” Budensiek said.
Hernandez Gonzalez now faces a charge of attempted first-degree murder and is being held without bond at the Martin County Jail.
The sheriff added that Hernandez Gonzalez is in the country illegally and is also being detained for immigration authorities.
While authorities have not released specific details about the victim’s condition, they confirmed she is expected to make a full recovery as the criminal case moves forward.
This violent, seemingly random attack has shocked the local community and sparked renewed concern over safety on Martin County beaches late at night. Sheriff Budensiek urged residents to remain vigilant when walking alone in isolated areas after dark.
