A New Jersey immigration enforcement operation took a dangerous turn Wednesday when a man accused by federal authorities of being in the country illegally allegedly fled ICE officers, sped onto a major roadway and crashed into another vehicle.
The collision injured multiple people, including the wife of East Brunswick Mayor Brad Cohen, turning an already contentious immigration enforcement operation into the latest flashpoint in New Jersey’s fierce debate over sanctuary policies.
According to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, officers were carrying out a targeted enforcement operation when the suspect allegedly refused repeated commands and attempted to escape.
