An Arizona State University (ASU) campus turned into a nightmare last Thursday as a student was savagely stabbed by a fellow classmate in a shocking attack that has left the community shaken. The brutal assault took place inside a classroom building on ASU’s West Valley campus, leaving the victim, Mara Daffron, fighting for her life after being targeted in broad daylight.

The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Kaci Sloan, is accused of launching a premeditated attack on Daffron as she was entering the Sands Classroom Building, Room 101, for class. According to reports, Sloan abruptly stood up from her seat and stabbed Daffron twice, aiming for a third strike before being heroically stopped by another student.

According to Fox 10 Phoenix, the assailant’s attack was thwarted by ASU student Matthew McCormick, who leaped into action at a crucial moment. McCormick recounted the harrowing experience, describing how he risked his own safety to prevent Sloan from stabbing Daffron again.

“As she was going for a third attack, I was able to grab her wrists and apprehend her before further damage could be done,” McCormick told Fox 10 Phoenix. “In that moment, I didn’t really have a thought going through my head. I just knew that I felt compelled to do something.”
