America’s rental car industry is facing a crisis of their own making—and it all started with the Biden administration’s push for electric vehicles. Companies bet big on EVs, hoping to ride the “green wave,” only to see profits vanish and fleets sit idle. Now, rental giants are resorting to desperate measures to offload the vehicles nobody wants.
One woman recently revealed just how out of control the situation has become. Kayley Slicer, a TikTok user, paid $25 for a Budget “mystery rental” and was handed the keys to a luxury Genesis. The reveal left her—and her followers—stunned.
Budget’s mystery car gamble paid off for one lucky traveler. “I couldn’t believe it,” Slicer said as she shared the experience online. “I booked a mystery car for $25 and ended up with a Genesis.”
Her video has racked up over 712,000 views, capturing the imagination of Americans who are increasingly skeptical about the EV craze. Normally, a Genesis rents for hundreds of dollars per day, but rental companies are practically giving them away now.
