For years, California Democrats insisted critics were fearmongering when they warned that handing commercial driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants would eventually end in tragedy.
Now another deadly crash has reignited that debate, and this time even Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy is openly accusing California leaders of ignoring federal safety rules while innocent Americans pay the price.
A devastating crash on California’s Highway 99 has left two people dead after a semi-truck allegedly driven by an illegal immigrant jackknifed across the roadway near Lodi, triggering a violent chain-reaction collision. Authorities say the driver, identified as Manvir Singh, fled the scene on foot before officers eventually tracked him down and arrested him.
The horrifying incident has quickly become a political firestorm because Singh reportedly should never have been behind the wheel of a commercial truck in the first place.
According to federal officials, Singh crossed the southern border illegally through Arizona in 2023 during the height of the Biden administration’s border crisis. He was encountered by federal authorities but later released into the country.
