SCOTUS Faces THE Question That Could CRUSH Democrats!

The United States Supreme Court is gearing up to tackle a contentious issue that could significantly impact Second Amendment rights—and Democrats are bracing for the fallout. A case concerning bans on so-called “assault weapons” is expected to make its way to the high court, posing a significant challenge to efforts aimed at limiting gun ownership.

For much of American history, the Second Amendment was treated as a lesser constitutional right. It wasn’t until 2008, in District of Columbia v. Heller, that the Supreme Court declared firearm ownership a fundamental right. This landmark decision affirmed that the Second Amendment protects an individual’s right to own firearms for self-defense within the home, striking down Washington, D.C.’s handgun ban as unconstitutional.

The 2008 Heller decision also introduced the concept that firearms in “common use” could not be restricted. However, the court largely sidestepped further Second Amendment debates until the 2022 Bruen decision. In Bruen, the court ruled that gun control measures must align with the historical tradition of firearm regulation in the United States. This precedent is now setting the stage for another monumental decision regarding so-called “assault weapons” bans.
