“Again, it’s no real wonder that Donald Trump, at this point, looking at the shutdown, says, ‘You know what? It’s not actually harming me politically,’ in large part, because he’s getting less of the blame,” Enten said.
And there’s a good reason for that. The Constitution gives Congress — not the president — the power of the purse. It’s lawmakers who pass funding bills, meaning Democrats in the Senate are the ones holding the line.
Democrats Playing Chicken With America’s Wallet
Democrats have vowed to block any funding bill that doesn’t include extensions for Obamacare subsidies expiring at the end of the year. Republicans, meanwhile, refuse to cave to what they see as unnecessary spending demands. The result: a 20-day standoff that’s showing no sign of easing.
But here’s the twist — the political pressure isn’t building on the GOP. It’s building on Democrats. With razor-thin majorities in Congress, Democrats now need Republican cooperation to get the government reopened. Instead of damaging Trump, the shutdown has exposed division and desperation within their own ranks.
GOP Sees Surge in Donations Amid Shutdown
If fundraising numbers are any indication, the Republican base isn’t discouraged — it’s energized. The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) just posted its best September ever for a non-election year, raking in nearly $24 million between July and September.
WATCH:
More than half of that total — about $13.95 million — came in September alone, as the shutdown drama dominated headlines. That’s a 50 percent increase over last year’s numbers. According to Fox News, the NRCC now boasts $46 million cash on hand and has raised $93 million so far in 2025.
NRCC Chair Rep. Richard Hudson (R-N.C.) credited the surge to renewed confidence in Republican leadership. “House Republicans are firing on all cylinders,” Hudson told Fox News Digital. “Our majority funded the federal government, and we’re delivering for working families and building unstoppable momentum heading into 2026.”
Bottom Line: Schumer’s Shutdown Backfires
While Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and his caucus hoped to paint Trump and the GOP as the villains of this government freeze, the numbers tell a very different story. Trump’s approval is steady, Republican fundraising is booming, and Democrats are scrambling to explain why they’re holding up paychecks for federal workers.
As the shutdown drags on, the political calculus seems simple — Trump gains strength, the GOP cashes in, and Democrats take the blame for the mess they made.

This is the end of the Democrat party as we know it. I hope it’s gone pretty soon.
It is about time that the Democrats and their failed expensive policy’s fall off of their imagined mountain and fade into oblivion.
Two top Democrats that carry the majority of the blame for the (SSS), SHAMEFUL SCHUMER SHUTDOWN are Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries! Word is that they should be the first two kicked out! They are only self-serving and telling lies and don’t care about we the people. They only care about keeping power and taking $$$ in secret. They are proving they hate America every time they open their mouths! The list of sitting Democrats is growing longer and longer on the Never TO RE-ELECT and NEVER PUT ANOTHER NEW DEMOCRAT IN OFFICE!
