At the annual Munich Security Conference, Rubio delivered a speech that electrified the room and earned him a standing ovation from an audience not always known for warm receptions toward assertive American leadership.
The message was unmistakable. The United States is back to speaking clearly about sovereignty, culture, and the survival of Western civilization.
Rubio opened with a sweeping look at history, reminding attendees what was once at stake.
“We gather here today as members of a historic alliance, an alliance that saved and changed the world,” Rubio began.
He invoked the darkest chapters of the 20th century, recalling the Berlin Wall and the Cuban Missile Crisis. He warned that there was a time when “Soviet communism was on the march” and “thousands of years of Western civilization hung in the balance.”
The point was simple. The transatlantic alliance was not formed out of convenience. It was forged in crisis. And it worked.
