The Republican National Committee isn’t mincing words when it comes to the looming budget battle in the Senate. In a clear message to GOP lawmakers, RNC Chairman Michael Whatley is urging swift action on the House-passed “Big Beautiful Bill” — a sweeping Trump-backed budget proposal loaded with conservative priorities. And he’s warning of dire political consequences if Senate Republicans fail to deliver.
“We’ve seen the House deliver on the ‘big, beautiful bill’; we need the Senate to do the same,” Whatley said during an appearance on WABC 770 AM’s “The Cats Roundtable.” “I think we’re going to have a lot of time to discuss over the next month what the Senate needs to do to get this bill done.”
That “discussion,” as Whatley puts it, may be less of a policy debate and more of a battle for the GOP’s political survival. The House barely passed the bill earlier this week — 215 to 214 — and now all eyes are on the Senate, where Republican infighting and deficit hawks threaten to stall momentum.
Whatley didn’t sugarcoat what’s at stake. With only a five-seat majority in the House and a brutal Senate map ahead, failure to rally behind the budget could cripple the GOP’s chances in 2026.
